About Us
The Butte County Fire Safe Council (BCFSC) is a grassroots 501c(3)nonprofit dedicated to building wildfire-resilient communities across Butte County. Since 1998, we’ve partnered with residents, agencies, and local organizations to reduce hazardous fuels, improve forest health, and strengthen wildfire resilience through education, collaboration, and action.

Our mission is to provide safety in Butte County through wildfire hazard education, mitigation, and wildfire recovery. From the foothills to the forests, our work spans defensible space projects, shaded fuel breaks, prescribed fire, post-fire restoration, youth education, and community engagement.

 Project Manager – 1 Opening

Job Summary

The Butte County Fire Safe Council (BCFSC) is seeking an experienced, motivated Project Manager to join our dynamic team working at the forefront of wildfire resilience and landscape stewardship. The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and implementation of fuels reduction and forest health projects across Butte County.

Primary responsibilities include project development, stakeholder engagement, regulatory compliance, grant reporting, and managing on-the-ground implementation efforts. The ideal candidate will be passionate about building fire-adapted communities, supporting climate-resilient forests, and empowering local residents through collaborative wildfire mitigation efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and oversee fuels reduction, defensible space, and forest health projects across diverse landscapes.
  • Coordinate with landowners, Registered Professional Foresters, contractors, tribal partners, and agency representatives to ensure project success.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, contracts, and reporting requirements for multiple grant-funded initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permitting requirements (CEQA/NEPA), and best management practices.
  • Conduct site assessments, contribute to project design, and develop project maps and documentation with support from technical specialists.
  • Lead or assist with public outreach, including community meetings, landowner engagement, and educational events related to wildfire resilience and forest health.
  • Maintain and grow partnerships with federal, state, tribal, and local partners to enhance project outcomes and leverage additional opportunities.
  • Represent BCFSC professionally at collaborative meetings, workshops, and field tours.

Required Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field is preferred. However, candidates with equivalent professional experience in land management, wildfire mitigation, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong working knowledge of forestry practices, wildfire mitigation strategies, fuels management, and regulatory permitting processes.
  • Demonstrated experience with grant management, project tracking, and compliance reporting.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate diverse stakeholders, contractors, and agency partners.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, technical plans, and environmental documents; proficiency or familiarity with GIS (ArcGIS).
  • Commitment to wildfire resilience, land stewardship, and community empowerment.

 Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
  • Experience working with rural communities, nonprofits, or local government agencies is highly desirable.
