Project Notice: Park Fire Restoration Project

June 3, 2026 — Funded by the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, the Park Fire Restoration Project aims to reduce hazardous fuels, protect water resources, support post-fire landscape recovery, and promote the return of fire-resilient vegetation. The 2024 Park Fire burned approximately 53,000 acres within Butte County, leaving behind significantly altered landscapes in need of active restoration.

This project works to address those post-fire conditions by targeting areas where elevated fuel loads and disrupted vegetation increase the risk of re-burn and continued watershed impacts. The following treatment methods will be utilized to accomplish these objectives: mastication, hand tree fall, mechanical pile construction, hand pile construction, pile burning, and lop & scatter. Mechanical pile construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with pile burning anticipated to occur once the fall 2026 burn window opens and sufficient precipitation allows for safe ignition conditions.

The Butte County Fire Safe Council is a grassroots non-profit organization that implements a variety of fuels reduction and forest health projects in operation around Butte County including Forbestown, Berry Creek, Forest Ranch, Cohasset, Paradise, Big Chico Creek Canyon, and Oroville Foothills.
